Starting the cabs for the home office today.

Now that the bathroom cabinet is out of the way I can start working on our cabinets and desk for the home office.  This is a project I've really been looking forward to for some time.  We're utilizing an old cabinet that was originally built for the band room at Garfield High and building a bookcase that pulls out 18".  They'll be built in as a corner unit.  18" is the depth of the old school cabinet, so the idea is that you can pull the bookcase out to get to what would be dead space in the corner.

Have been doing more research into no VOC paints for metal without too much luck so far.  There's much more information specifically geared to wall paint. About.com seemed to have some of the most concise information.  I'll have to look deeper.

Need to attend some business chores today as well.  Carolyn sent me the name and number of her insurance agent with highest recommendations, and it's been on my list of things to get done for a while now so...

What a clever idea! Will the bookcase be on rollers? A rail? What are the dimensions of the workspace?

I really like the looks of the skylight. Where is this located? What is its history?

I love the idea of reusing materials, giving them a new life!

Thanks, Debbie! The bookcase will be mounted on two sets of 18" drawer slides. I found some online that are rated at 500 lbs./pair,so should be able to handle the load. The desk top will be 18" deep by 5' wide.

The skylight is in the bathroom. We put it in early last summer as part of the whole bathroom remodel. It had a previous life as a display item. Reused!

Thanks to everyone for all the input and advice. It's really helpful to get all these things figured out beforehand.
